The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Conference, held by Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST), concluded under the auspices of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the period from 20--21-December 2022. Which aims to bridge the gaps in laws and legislations related to renewable energy, and to support and direct scientific research for what it serves in terms of energy issues, while choosing the best business models in addition to activating the role of civil society organizations and voluntary work.
Prof. Amal Omar Bakhiet, Dean of Scientific Research at SUST, expressed her gratitude to all those who participated in the success of the conference, including the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the administration of SUST, researchers and experts from outside Sudan, the participating universities, the organizing committees of the conference, and in particular the media committee that covered the activities of the conference extensively and in a large scale through the various media, especially the electronic media.
A number of scientific papers were presented at the conference, which are the current situation of the energy sector in Sudan, the opportunities and challenges of the renewable energy sector in Sudan, the role of women, entrepreneurship and appropriate technology in accelerating the transition to clean energy, investment, financing and partnerships in the renewable energy sector, and the last paper dealt with the role of scientific research in raising awareness and creation of sustainable paths for the production of clean energy. A dialogue session was held with young researchers, innovative entrepreneurs in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The conference came out with a number of recommendations represented in developing long-term policies that support renewable energy, supporting the use of biogas, afforestation and reforestation, benefiting from the experiences of countries in the energy transition, increasing the rate of community awareness by investing in building effective partnerships that create integrated solutions, establishing a youth platform to transfer Experience, raising awareness of all types of renewable energy, making renewable energy and energy efficiency within university curricula, focusing on renewable energy that contributes to increasing income, ensuring the periodic convening of the conference, provided that during the period between the two sessions, workshops will be held to help develop the themes of the upcoming conference.
