Senate Meeting No.1-2023: Vice Chancellor Declares “Products Would be Provided through Investment Administration”

Prof. Eisa Bashier Mohamad, the vice chancellor of Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST), chaired the Senate meeting No. (1) for the year 2023. The vice chancellor welcomed the attendees and congratulated them on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan. He also congratulated those who joined the Council by virtue of their position, and special and deserved congratulations to academic staff who were promoted to the rank of Professor.

His Excellency briefed the Senate members on the course of events since the last Senate meeting, in terms of academic stability, which he attributed to the concerted efforts of all university employees. He referred to the progress of the university in the latest Webometrics Ranking of World Universities and Institutes for January 2023, globally, in the Arab world and in Africa, in addition to SUST's preservation of the first place among Sudanese universities for Webometrics TRANSPARENT RANKING for Digital Repositories by Google Scholar for its fifteenth edition, February 2023.

His Excellency also praised the university's organization of the Conference on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in addition to the university's organization of the International Conference on Appropriate Technology (ICAT) in partnership with the University of Khartoum, as well as a conference on contemporary women's issues in the context of celebrating International Women's Day

His Excellency also expressed his appreciation for organizing the workshops that were held targeting development, maximization of the university's resources, raising awareness of the dangers of drugs and how to combat them in order to preserve the targeted youth groups, and the holding of a university book fair in cooperation with the Egyptian Academic Science House for publishing in the university's premises.

The vice chancellor also numbered the memorandums of understanding and agreements that were signed in the previous period at the local and external levels.

His Excellency also briefed the Senate membership about the visit of His Excellency, the Ambassador of India, to the university and what resulted from it in terms of great cooperation between the university and the State of India in the field of training and the provision of opportunities for knowledge and technological exchange, in addition to training a considerable number of technicians in the coming period.

His Excellency conveyed to the Senate membership, the decision of Petronas Malaysian company to honor outstanding students for all disciplines, especially engineering. He stressed the necessity of applying the agreements and MoUs at the level of faculties, schools and departments so that everyone can reap its fruits that will bring great benefit.

His Excellency stated that the university has brought in equipment and devices for the laboratories of the Faculty of Science for the new specializations in the faculty and put an end to the suffering in the absence and lack of laboratories that are needed to complete the teaching process, calling for the need to exploit and use the laboratories in research projects to achieve competition at the level of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

His Excellency also briefed the Senate membership about the activities carried out by the university in community service, appreciation and support, in particular the convoy of support and the second support for the Manaqil region, funded by donating a day’s salary from the employees. He also mentioned the medical convoy that the students of the Faculty of Medicine conducted to the White Nile state.

His Excellency also briefed the Senate membership about the university’s honoring of pensioners and membership of the Senate Sub-committees, describing the honoring as a gesture of appreciation and thanksgiving for the rich donation and moral stimulation of the honorees. He appealed for the honoring to become a frequent habit.

His Excellency also briefed the Senate membership about the meeting of the Directors of governmental universities committee with the Minister of Cabinet Affairs for the purpose of addressing the salaries of university employees. In turn, the minister formed a committee that includes membership from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Service Affairs Bureau and representatives from universities. His Excellency preached the provision of investment management products at the university to workers in the second week of the holy month of Ramadan to cover the needs of the university's employees and invest the surplus from it.

His Excellency also declared that the Investment Administration will provide products to employees in the second week of the holy month of Ramadan to cover the needs of the university's employees and the surplus will be invested.

The Senate approved the results of the College of Graduate Studies at the doctorate, masters, and post-graduate diploma levels. The senate also approved the undergraduate results of the various colleges of the university at the bachelor's and diploma levels.

Furthermore, the following proposals are approved,

  • Amendment to the Bachelor of Education programs (honor) in Pre-school education from five to four years,
  • Postgraduate transformational diploma programs in physical education and sports,
  • Postgraduate transformational diploma programs in future studies by courses,
  • Postgraduate transformational diploma in applied linguistics (teaching Arabic to non-native speakers),
  • Proposal to establish a center for agricultural consulting and service,
  • Amendment to the Bachelor of Science program (honours) in textile engineering - specializing in medical textiles,
  • Postgraduate transformational diploma in information systems,
  • Master of science in information systems by courses and complementary research,
  • Master of Science program in sustainable agriculture with courses,
  • Master of Science program in project management and agricultural business with courses,
  • and a master's program in food safety and quality with courses.
