Sudan University of Science and Technology has ranked first among Sudanese universities in Webometrics web ranking of repositories, which is sponsored by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Google Scholar. The university scored the position (190) at the level of institutional repositories out of (4403) repositories. Globally, the university came in the 205th place among the world’s repositories (4579) in its eleventh edition in May 2021.

The classification of repositories aims to support initiatives of open and free access to scientific research and academic activity of researchers and academics in institutions and universities, which are published in an open archive.

The classification of repositories depends on precise criteria such as the volume and quality of the research and academic open published via the websites of universities and electronic institutions, as well as the presence of the institution's electronic archive on the web, as well as the volume and quantity of written and listed documents in the English language.
