Prof Awad Saad, vice chancellor of the university, chaired the coordination meeting between the university and the Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI) of COMESA led by the Executive Director of the Institute Prof (Dr.) Mwinyikione Mwinyihija.

Prof Awad welcomed the attendees and the priased the university’s recent participation in the 13th ALLPIs regional forum in Malawi and stated that the university participation has achieved many gains in terms of joint cooperation with ALLPI and COMESA universities in Africa, India and Turkey in the field of leather industry.

Prof Mwinyihija also commented on the close relationship that binds the Institute to Sudan University of Science and Technology through the Leather Industries Incubator since 2014, when memorandum of understanding was signed for cooperation between the two parties in academic and research journals, transfer of technologies and training, in addition to the scientific activities and exhibitions organized by the institute.

Prof Mwinyihija also promised the Institute's commitment to provide opportunities for students from SUST, noting the need to raise the capabilities of small and medium producers in the leather industry, not only in Sudan but in Africa in general in academic aspects, through applied research and the exchange of knowledge and experiences that contribute greatly to solving problems related to leather industries.

Mr. Al-Sunni Hamid, the director of the leather incubator at Sudan University of Science and Technology, appreciated the role of the Africa Institute in providing the incubator's equipment and machinery and providing opportunities for the university to participate in regional exhibitions, calling on the institute to supplement the shortage of leather tannery affiliated with the incubator.

The meeting concluded on the necessity for cooperation between all governmental, private and academic sectors to promote the leather industry in Sudan and Africa as a whole.

Prof Awad Saad announced his commitment to cooperating with all sectors, calling on the institute to provide training opportunities for producers in this field at their various levels, stressing the need to pay attention to leather industries that will contribute significantly to advancing the economy in the country, while making broad awareness of the importance of this sector.

Prof. Awad Saad, Director of the Sudan University of Science and Technology, met Mr. Ismail Abdullah, the Secretary-General of the Arab Theater Authority and the accompanying delegation. The meeting was held in the Vice-Chancellor office, in the presence of the Secretary of Academic Affairs, the Dean of the College of Music and Drama, and a number of professors from the College of Music and Drama.

The meeting discussed cooperation relations between the university, represented by the College of Music and Drama, and the Authority in establishing many joint activities, in addition to the necessity to activate the relationship between the two sides in a number of future projects that benefit both parties.

Prof Ismail Abdullah, Secretary-General of the Authority, confirmed that the Sudanese artist has been in the Authority since its establishment and played an important and influential role, and expressed his happiness for working with an academic institution, stressing on the role that the College of Music and Drama can play as a strategic store for cultural and educational work in networking efforts to qualify students in arts, education, and school theater.

Finally, the two sides agreed to issue a scientific refereed journal, and the university announced the awarding of an honorary doctorate in drama to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and Supreme President of the Arab Theater Authority.

 Prof Awad Saad expressed his complete readiness to communicate and provide everything that could serve the community through theater and the arts, in solidarity with the authority.

Prof. Awad Saad Hassan, university vice chancellor, accompanied by Mr. Sunni Hamid, an engineer and the director of the university's Leather Incubator, returned from Malawi after their participation in the 13th ALLPI Annual Regional Consultative Forum of Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute(ALLPI), which was held in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, with the participation of twelve COMESA countries in addition to India and Turkey .

Upon his return, Prof Awad stated that the forum had discussed the challenges facing workers in the leather industry in general and Sudan in particular, in addition to the activities of ALLPI in the COMESA countries, represented in providing machinery and equipment, holding workshops and concluding memoranda of understanding and other topics that help promote the leather industries movement in the member states.

SUST participated in the forum by presenting a research paper on small and medium producers in the field of the leather industry in Sudan. The university also participated with the delegation of Sudan in presenting the country paper. The University formed a distinguished presence in the academic platform that provided recommendations and proposals.

On the sidelines of the forum, Prof Awad met with the presidents of African, Indian and Turkish universities, and the meetings discussed ways of cooperation with SUST in finding opportunities for higher studies, conducting research and exchanging teaching experiences, in addition to student exchange and twinning with the university in the field of leather industries, and the university also participated in an exhibition of leather industries, where the university incubator won the approval of the visitors.

The well-known Sudanese director, Dr. Adel Muhammad Al-Hassan Al-Harbi, Dean of the College of Music and Drama at Sudan University of Science and Technology, participated in the Sharjah Desert Theater Festival with a play,

"Love in the Desert"

which was adapted from the play,

"Al-Mak Nimer",

by Al-Abadi. Dr. Harbi was known for his interest in body language and ceremonial theater, and he accomplished a number of important references in this field, In addition to his interest in the combination of the spectacle of music and the theatrical image, as he presented in this field several experiences, the most important of which is the "Traveler", which was produced by the German Cultural Center with the participation of the choir of the College of Music and Drama.

Prof Awad Saad Hasan, vice chancellor of the university, and Prof  Mahdi Abbas Shakak, deputy vice chancellor, held a meeting with the Delegation of Northeast Forestry University (NEFU).

The meeting was chaired by the deputy vice chancellor and included the deans of college of animal production science and technology, college of science, college of forestry and range science and the college of agricultural studies. 

The delegation provided a comprehensive definition of the university, especially in the field of forests and wildlife. The delegation also gave an enlightening lecture to professors and graduate students about the university, the African scholarship for Chinese friendship, the method of applying for it, and the privileges offered by the Chinese government.

It should be noted that the Chinese delegation started the visit by meeting with Dr. Nodar Osman Khalif  who believed in the necessity of the continuation and development of cooperation between the two sides.

Prof Abbas Mahdi Shakak, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University, praised the female staff at the university for the pioneering and societal role they offer, which deserves honoring and gratitude. This came when addressing the activities of the graduation ceremony of the

Professional Skills in Food Processing course

which was organized by the Institute for Family and Community Development in cooperation with the Human Resources department for 50 female trainees from the university staff. The ceremony included Dr. Fatima Omer Nabag, dean of the Institute for Family and Community Development, Prof Yasser Mukhtar, head of the Human Resources Department, Dr. Nagwa Abdullatif, Head of the Training Department at the Institute, the course instructors and a group of attendees.

Prof Shakak stressed that the university is doing its best to support the well-being of female staff. He stated that females represent 60% of the total university community and they must be provided with different specific skills to benefit from the resources available in the surrounding environment, especially since Sudan has abundant goodness.  He also expressed his happiness for smart partnerships through collaboration among the various departments at the university. He mentioned that the situation in the past was miserable and did not give women their rights, therefore, this important issue should be paid attention to.

Dr. Fatima Omar Nabag pointed out that the training course included many aspects, most notably safety, professional skills, ethics, general appearance and the importance of preserving time, and she showed that food manufacturing represents an economic, social and nutritional pillar with multiple benefits for all sectors, especially female workers who need such projects to help them to face the difficulties of life and living conditions that the country is going through.

Dr. Fatima also stated that course instructors have participated from the Faculty of Agricultural Studies and joined the team spirit to spread their expertise and important skills for food production and processing, which we hope will become one of the largest projects in the future.

Prof Yasser Mukhtar explained that the university administration pays great attention to the workers' segment and the university is aware of their growing role towards the  institution. He stated that the university aim to protect and empower all workers through training and skills development to enable them to face daily life struggle. Prof Mukhtar also assured that they target internal and external funding resources for training programs.

Dr. Najwa Abdullatif stressed on the completion of the theoretical side besides practical training. She stated that the workers have been trained in productive and behavioral skills that will benefit them in various fields and different circumstances. She explained that food products do not contain any preservatives, most notably (pickles,  various types of sauces, jams of all kinds, juices, drying vegetables). Dr. Najwa promised continuity of training courses for all workers, remembering that they have a plan to finance and invest these projects through companies and banks, inviting everyone to visit the accompanying exhibition that reflects the products of the studies.

In conclusion, certificates were distributed to the students amid the joy and interaction of all attendees.

The UNESCO Chair for Women in Science and Technology and the Deanship of Scientific Research at Sudan University of Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Unit for Combating Violence Against Women and Children and the United Nations Population Fund, organized a workshop entitled

Violence against women between legal responsibility and societal culture

with the presence of Prof Awad Saad Hassan, vice chancellor of the University, Prof Mahdi Abbas Shakak, deputy vice chancellor, Prof Amal Omar Bakhit, Dean of the Deanship of Scientific Research, Prof Amal Muhammad Ibrahim, Director of the UNESCO Chair, and Prof Salima Ishaq, Director of the Violence Against Women and Children Unit, and a group of specialists in the field, university professors and interested parties.

Prof Shakak emphasized that women represent great value in their intellectual and competitive capabilities in all forums, and said that women's rights should be known and the culture of combating violence against women in all its forms should be known and awareness of this and respect for their role is considered a responsibility for everyone

He also noted that women represent 60% of the working staff at the university, which is an indication of the importance of its pioneering role in building and reviving societies.

Professor Amal Omar Bakhit expressed her happiness at the holding of the workshop and showed that caring for women and believing in their effectiveness must be faced with preserving their rights and directing society to reject violence and circumvent their different roles .. She said that we in scientific research document all topics in a scientific way and search for solutions to all problems and various aspects of science and its forms with Highlight it to lift damage.

Prof Amal Omar Bakhit expressed her happiness at the workshop and showed that caring for women and believing in their effectiveness must be faced with preserving their rights and directing society to reject violence. She said that in scientific research, they document all topics using scientific methods and search for solutions to all problems and highlight it to lift damage.

Prof Amal Muhammad Ibrahim called on all groups and segments of society to stop the attitudes of marginalizing and reducing the status of women, and she said that awareness must be raised against the practice of violence against women, in addition to combating it and defining its damages. She explained that the slogan of #Hanabniyeho (we will built it) should be embodied in protecting rights and achieving social justice and rejecting violence in general and against women in particular. She also talked about their great ambition to establish a center to aid Sudanese and African women who do not enjoy their human rights in society.

Ms. Dalal Siddiq, representative of the UNESCO office in Khartoum, indicated that violence represents a clear and clear violation of human rights, noting that it has long-term social, cultural, psychological and moral implications, and indicated that UNESCO organizes an annual campaign in Sudan to coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in December.

Prof Awad Saad Hassan, vice chancellor of the university, met with Dr. Hashim S. Hussein,  head of the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) and Director of the Arab Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship and Investment Training (ARCEIT) – Kingdom of Bahrain.

The meeting included the head of the Sudanese center for Self-Employment and Entrepreneurship at the University.

The meeting discussed the role that universities can play to empower young people in entrepreneurship projects and to promote innovation and invention in technological and other fields to contribute significantly to the country's economic development and create self-employment opportunities for youth and women. Interspersed with workshops for students and others to possess information for students in their various specializations to engage in entrepreneurship and innovation projects in its various fields.

The vice chancellor has shown his complete readiness to provide everything in his power to move forward in the field of entrepreneurship to serve students and highlight the university's role in community development.

Prof Awad Saad Hassan, vice chancellor of the university, returned from the Arab Republic of Egypt, after he participated in the 12th Conference of Rectors in the Middle East (CONFREMO), which was organized by the University Agency for Francophonie at the University of Alexandria on the first of December.

Prof Awad stated that the conference discussed the challenges facing the fourth digital revolution in higher education institutions in the member states of the agency, which aims to shift from traditional education to digital education, which requires training for teachers, developing the support structure for this and providing databases in the next phase, and he added an addition to the use of artificial intelligence, and the need to cooperate with the private sector in projects aimed at finding solutions to this digital transformation.

Also, Prof Awad met with the Regional Director of Agency of Universities Francophonie (AUF), and it was agreed to cooperate in training teachers and technicians.

Prof Awad also met Prof Essam Al-Kurdi, Director of Alexandria University, who agreed to train nuclear engineering students at Alexandria University.

Prof Awad stated that the Sudan University of Science and Technology is the first Sudanese university to start the transition from traditional education to digital education, and added that a committee will be formed to develop plans to complete the implementation of this project.

A meeting was held with the delegation of China University of Petroleum. The meeting was attended by the university principal, the secretary of academic affairs, the dean of college of petroleum engineering, head of external relations office and the head of the public relations administration.

Dr. Omar Ahmed Khalifa, Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Sudan University of Science and Technology, accompanied by a number of pioneers in the art of Arabic calligraphy and coloring in the college inaugurated an exhibition of Arabic Islamic calligraphy by

Taj Al-Sir Hassan Sayed Ahmed

the international artist and calligrapher residing in Sharjah. The exhibition was held  in the college's buildings in the West Campus, which came in cooperation with the Sudanese Calligraphers Association.

The Dean of the college emphasized on the great role that the college plays in the various fields of art, and expressed his happiness at the important visit of the international artist Taj Al-Sir, who returned after the revolutionary uprisings that took place in the country. The visit program included the opening of the college’s student exhibition and a workshop on the importance Islamic Arabic calligraphy in Sudan and presenting its practical experience in this field.

Further more, the international calligrapher, Taj Al-Sir, praised the process of change in the country and the development of the college, which he was one of its students, and thanked the administration of the college for the warm hospitality he found among the pioneers of fine arts in the college.

Professor Abu Al-Hassan Ali Al-Samani, President of the Sudanese Calligraphers Association, said that such visits by the pioneers of Arabic calligraphy are considered as continuous encouragement for professionals in Islamic Arabic calligraphy and students of the Faculty of Arts, and he said that the association is newly formed and established and is certified by the official authorities of the state and its mission is to gather Sudanese calligraphers in a melting pot. One for the development of the art of Arabic calligraphy in the country after the revolutionary change that has occurred and looking forward, and this association is an idea that came from graduates and talented people in order to practice, develop and sponsor those in the field of fine arts to advance it to the world.

Dr. Abbas Elshaikh Rahma, Dean of the College of Agricultural Studies, held a meeting with the Agricultural Attaché of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sudan, accompanied by the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy. The visit was held in light of the recent meeting of Prof. Awad Saad Hassan, vice chancellor of the university, with the Chinese Ambassador.

The meeting discussed the aspects of cooperation between the two sides in the agricultural field and creating opportunities for knowledge and research exchange between specialized institutions in the two countries. The Dean of the College praised the response and the great interest of the Chinese side in developing the agricultural sector in Sudan, and the two parties insisted on the need to open communication channels with major Chinese companies specialized in the field of agriculture and animal production, in addition to the transfer and application of technology in the agricultural field in Sudan. The meeting also discussed the necessity of exchanging researchers and students at university and postgraduate studies levels in the agricultural field, in addition to holding scientific forums frequently.
