Prof. Saghiroun, Minister of HESR, Addresses a Workshop on Visual Documentation of Diseases at SUST

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Intisar Saghiroun and Prof. Awad H. Saad, vice-chancellor of the university, addressed a scientific workshop of "Visual documentation of diseases in Sudan", which was organized by the Mycetoma Center at the University of Khartoum in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ceramic Department of the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Sudan University of Science and Technology.


The workshop was attended by Prof. Ahmed Hassan Al-Fahl, Director of the Mycetoma Research Center, Prof. Mahdi Abbas Shkak, deputy vice-chancellor of the university, Dr. Al-Fatih Ahmed Hassan, the university principal, Prof. Saifeldin Mohamed Elamin Taha, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, Prof. Amal Omar Bakhit, Dean of the Deanship of Scientific Research, Dr. Abdelrahman Abdallah  Shangal, Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts, and Dr. Laila Mukhtar, Head of the Ceramics Department at the College of Fine and Applied Arts and a group of academic staff and a large number of students and interested parties.


Prof. Ahmed Hassan Al-Fahal praised the smart partnership with higher education institutions, specifically the distinguished role of  Sudan University of Science and Technology and the College of Applied and Fine Arts, in utilizing science and arts to serve the community through artistic effort and creative work.


Dr. Abd Al-Rahman Abdullah Shanqal welcomed the audience and affirmed their adherence to linking people to their heritage, artistic and material wealth, and explained that the college has enlightening and awareness raising roles, that target all sectors of society. He also added that the college has special programs in the states that address its different classes and contribute precisely to mind-forming and consolidating values ​​and legacies. Also, Dr. Shanqal expressed his happiness for the support that was promised by the Minister of Higher Education and Director of the Mycetoma Research Center to construct the buildings of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts in its new location.


Dr. Laila Mukhtar, Head of the Ceramics Department, expressed her gratitude for the support provided for the workshop and commented that throughout the workshop they aim to introduce the Mycetoma disease and highlight the role of plastic art in raising awareness and education of the disease in Sudan, while strengthening the social and emotional support for those who are infected. She also explained that they target academic staff, graduates and students of the ceramic department. Furthermore, she explained that the workshop programs include practical and practical aspects of making ceramics related to the documentation of the disease, in addition to video lectures and educational documentary films, and indicated that, despite the capabilities, the work will continue in community education in an effective way to defeat Mycetoma and all diseases, and she referred to a potential integrated exhibition.


It is worth noting that the program reviewed documentary films that dealt with the causes and forms of Mycetoma, wrong methods of treatment, correct treatment methods, the need for treatment by doctors and under supervision of health centers, in addition to the damages that occur to patients when it is too late to seek treatment.
